Friday Five: Hard Habit to Break

1. Have you ever successfully quit a bad habit, or gotten a good habit established? Tell us about how you did it.
Well, I used to chew on my hair. I know, that's a pretty lame habit! I'm non actually sure that I've gotten over it because for the past few years my hair has been too short to chew. I'm growing it out now, so we'll see in a few months.

2. "If only there were a 12-step program for _________________!"
American Idol! After every season I say, "I done with that," only to begin watching again when the top 24 begin to compete. (I never watch the auditions because those shows are so mean-spirited.) My Mindy Doo didn't win and I'm disillusioned, so I'm vowing not to watch again. Ask me again next winter!

3. Share one of your healthy "obsessions" with us.
I floss every single day! Like Julia Roberts said in Pretty Woman, before she has sex with a stranger, "You shouldn't neglect your gums." (She should have said, "You shouldn't neglect your dignity," but oh, well.)

4. Share the habit of a spouse, friend or loved one that drives you C-R-A-Z-Y.
Okay, when I and other normal people get their clothes out of their closets, we take the shirt (or whatever) off of the hanger and leave the hanger in the closet. My husband, on the other hand, takes the hanger out of the closet and then takes the shirt off the hanger. Now, I really don't care how he gets his clothes out of closet, except that he doesn't put the hangers back and there are fireplacin' hangers everywhere! Grrrrrrrrr..........

5. "I'd love to get into the habit of ___________________."
Yeah, that would be daily exercise.

Bonus: What is one small action you might take immediately to make #5 a reality?Tap into whatever Cathy has that is making her the amazing walking woman! But, really, I have begun to use a pedometer and my goal is 10,000 steps a day. Not, that I've gotten near that goal yet!

Bonus 2: Try it, and let us know how it goes in a future postIf I ever begin to lose this perpetually pregnant look, you will hear about it!

with you on the need for exercise- and also the coat hanger thing- one of my sons has solved the problem- he just never puts anything in his closet!!!

I used to bite my hair too...and I don't even remember how I broke that habit!

I have to say that although I don't watch American Idol, I was very very sad that Melinda lost. However, as my family keeps saying, it's better for her in the long run because now she can sign a record deal with whoever she wants and not be bound to American Idol forever. But yeah - she was clearly the best one.

Hairchewing, forgot all about that-- though it's been years and years...

You asked about getting away from processed foods-- the best way I can do that is to resign myself to eating a lot of leftovers. We try to make a big batch of something (stew, soup, veg. curry, etc.), and then I'll eat it for lunch all week. Dinners are relatively easy, but for lunch, I have to make that big batch of something, or I'm SOL.

I floss every day too!! And use Stimudents. See? *smiles brightly* We are true to our teeth so they will not be false to us!!!

And the hangers....that's just wrong.

Sally, yep that would solve the problem!

Melissa, I'm sure you didn't catch the finale on Wed. night, but Melinda sang with BeBe and CeCe Winans and they blew the roof off the place! Perhaps Melinda has a future in gospel music?

Mrs. M, Thanks!

PG- I'm not familiar with stimudents. How do they help your smile? I'll have to check that out!

I have a pedometer and was so discourage to learn that my forty minute walk around the dog park, my primary exercise, is less than 5,000...I was discouraged I gave up the pedometer and the walks...really. :-)

But now I guess I should just get over it and try, anything is better than nothing.

Exercise and clutter seem to be big themes today. Blessings on your new habits.

Sure, Towanda!

But I kinda miss the campus of Univ. of Denver to walk around. Do you ever go into that itty bitty chapel on campus there? I was always the only one in there when I went, so it was a nice place to pray.

I'm really impressed about the flossing. I always am really good after I go to the dentist, and then it gets a little more sporadic.

I was never ever consistent about exercise until getting the dog. I was for a little while, and then I'd quit. Good luck to you!

Ohhh the hangers thing would make me grumpy! My bad hair habit is taking the scissors to it myself. My new stylist and I are now on a mission to go from very short layers cut to ear-length bob .. oh my ... pray for us!

Iris, actually, Pam E. introduced me to that chapel, and I do go there to pray on occasion. I love walking around DU...did just yesterday with a friend. We've had so much snow/rain this year that everything is brilliantly green.
